In vol. 2, going back to the church four times (you can do this a row, BTW) can cause you to see a special event. It's optional... but...

[spoiler]Their memories of the .hack//SIGN cast. You get four Key Items called Memory of Such and Such after each event. Then you can spot ghosts of the .hack//SIGN cast in Vol. 3 and get rare items from them - Tsuaksa's Staff, BT's Staff, Ginkan's Sword.[/spoiler]

Actually, what Rhyste is talking about is an event that happens in the later games. It couldn't have happened in Infection.
