just who IS Emma Wieland?

Post by Invisible Egg! »

From the beginning of .hack//INFECTION, it seems that she is the author of 'The Epitaph of Twilight'. The timeline at www.dothack.com states that The Epitaph of Twilight is a "network epic... which is famous among certain groups of users". Also, it is alluded that Fragment (the prototype for The World) is somehow based on The Epitaph of Twilight. I'm curious as to how they are connected, as The Epitaph of Twilight appears to be just an epic poem. Also, in the first volume of .hack//LIMINALITY, we see a man standing at the grave of Emma Wielant (with a T, but i assume it's the same person) in Nuremberg, Germany. How/why did she die? Who is this man? And how did her story, The Epitaph of Twilight, evolve into the MMORPG The World?

Actually... You'd say the 'D' in her name as a 't' being that she's German, thus how they've got it written.

As for who Emma is...

[spoiler]
she is the very writer of the Epitaph of the Twilight, the story that Harold used to base The World from.

Also...

[spoiler]The man you see before the grave is Harold Hyuek, the creator of The World. He's the same as the 'broken man' you see in the 'Castle' episode of .hack//SIGN.

Fragments is, indeed, based on the story that Emma wrote, and the two were working together on it. The reasons for such are revealed in Liminality 3. The Epitaph is, basically, the hidden formula for doing what she and Harold were working on.

Emma died in a car accident, that may or may not have been a true accident.. at least, so far as we speculate. Harold was in love with her, though she did not return his love. That's an important thing to keep in mind, I think.
