what makes .hack so interesting?

Post by Guynietoren »

What makes .hack so interesting? It's certainly not the plot. Which seems to turn a great number of people away from it. I guess for me, it has an odd sense of familiarity to it, as if I'm going to learn something about myself by watching it.

I joined on here yestarday, but didn't have anything worth talking about. In fact this the only forum I've ever been on. Just trying to find something inteligent to do with my free time.

Anyways, there isn't anything about .hack that I find directly familiar within the plot and the characters, which has me sort of spooked out. I suppose it could have something to do with Tsukasa's character. Someone who doesn't understand himself, and afraid of predjudice from the very people who could help him, self-induced helplessness you could say. But it goes far beyond self-pity.

Tsukasa is a very cool character, espeacially once you start finding out about him as the series progresses.

I think at least one of the reasons I like .hack is because it is such a great concept - one I haven't seen before - namely, a MMORPG as a setting. Add outstanding music, lots of very interesting characters, and an artstyle that I presonally love...and how could I not like it?

... the thing that makes .hack cool.......

......... is the fact that it's not an actual MMORPG.

Sure the music is awsome, and the artwork is in high detail. It could take place in feudal Japan for all I care, but it would still have that special something that makes it uncomparable to any other anime.

The thing that makes it special to me is a very strange sense of familiarity. When I look at Tsukasa I don't see a Wizard stuck The World, but I see a kid who's in a certain amount of shit. Some people turn away from him, some people want to crucify him (well not literally of course), and a few special people care about him. He can't help having met the cat NPC (Maha?). He's in a fair amount of shit because of things outside of his own will. And that, sounds just like me.
Other from that, the music is utterly superb.
I love the deep sense of drama and melancholy as well .. that's probably the most attractive element. I'm a very dramatic and melencholic person.

.hack is completely different from any anime I've ever seen. The plot is great, the characters are awesome, the animation kicks, and the music is spiffy. What more could you want in an anime? It's hard for me to put my finger on what exactly I love so much about .hack, but something about it is just fascinating to me.

Hmm... I have to disagree with a statement...
What makes .hack so interesting? It's certainly not the plot. Which seems to turn a great number of people away from it.
The plot may be slow but the overall story kicks ass.

.hack is not in any way remotely close to the first anime I've ever seen. Its charm is in the fact that its different. Noone ever saw anything like this comming when it was released. Its fresh its cool and someone is gonna rip it off cuz its so insanely popular.

I never said that it wasn't popular, it just seems to be that you either love it or you find it borring. At least I haven't heard of any in between point of views. Fresh and Familiar always seems to make people bond with it, no matter what ideas are being sold.

Actually, I love the intriguing plot of the .hack series. If you take a look at other things I like, I can often times ignore animation quality to watch something if it's plot and characters capture my attention, which .hack certainly did. It's got a great storyline, and a very interesting and eyeopening one as well. It makes you look at things in a different way than you did before.

Well, the plot is one of the things that brought me to the series in the first place. Then it was the characters and the superb animation. The whole concept of having actual people in a game instead of just playing it from a console or computer is uber-nifty-keen ^^!
I can't find a thing I don't like about .hack, honestly.

I wonder, If I ever found out what made it familiar, it might make me less interested. In confusion and mystery you can develop your own answers to what goes on in the series, therefore making the plot your own. Just maybe. Ha, I guess not, It's still got me interested. It's probably for the best that the series takes so long to dish out answers about it's plot. It does have that theme of looking within yourself for answers, eh?

I'm sorry if my train of thought can be confusing to some.

I think this show is so popular because it has a little bit of everything. Intrigue, mystery, action, and romance(or hints of it). It has good music and cool characters and as others said is much different from the usual action-packed anime shows.
P.S. I broke 100!

the thing that draws me to .hack is that its like no other universe. the .hack world exists in a novel, manga, videogame, ova, anime, radio drama, and more. the world of .hack is not only vast but put together by 3 of the bigest names in anime. its evercrack gone regnorok online and add a anime like story behind all of your movements like snake in metal gear solid you have a set path, but in .hack you can take manny directions to arive at that set path. its still the same old Triger Actaved Event RPG but at least it feals a bit less liner then say Final fantasy X.
